It may not be the first country that springs to mind when you hear the word skiing but the Czech Republic actually has some fantastic ski resorts which are great for first-time skiers and is an up and coming ski country. There are over 200 ski resorts in the Czech Republic of which over 25 of those are four or five star resorts.
Skiing is a popular activity in the Czech Republic although it doesn’t attract an awful amount of people from other countries. Twelve percent of the countries territory is made up of national parks and it is in these national parks and protected areas that the majority of the Czech’s winter resorts are located.
There are some disadvantages of taking a ski holiday in the Czech Republic, its peaks do not reach the same altitudes as in the Alps and sometimes you will find yourself queuing for quite some time to get onto a lift. However it also has its advantages such as its prices which are lower than most parts of Europe and the Czech ski resorts are constantly undergoing modernisation.
The Czech Republic has a lot to offer when it comes down to ski resorts and although the mountains aren’t high, the main peak Snezka is just 1602m above ski level but they are located in the forests and have some perfect skiing conditions. The main ski areas are located in Moravia and Bohemia
The skiing is well suited for beginners or those who would rather go casual skiing. For those who prefer more advanced terrain they should probably look elsewhere for their ski holiday. The best place for more advanced skiers to head to is Spindleruv Mlyn which is a nice destination.
The Czech Republic is a great destination for a late ski holiday with the family due to its gentle slopes and affordability. In recent years ski operators have been paying more attention to skiing for children, there are special children’s parks and family ski passes at a reduced rate.
Czech Republic is not the only place that is a good location for family ski holidays. There are many other resorts in Europe which has resorts that are specifically family friendly.
