Insurance in Prague and the Czech Republic

Whether you are a resident or a visitor to Prague, you have good insurance options available to you.  If you are traveling, you can get comprehensive travel insurance and if you are a resident you can find health, motor, pet, home and life insurance at reasonable rates.  Motor insurance is important to have for both residents and visitors to carry.  If you rent a car make sure you know what is covered and purchase additional coverage if necessary.  As for whether you need health insurance depends on your personal situation.  If you are a resident, it is likely you have coverage through your employer or through the government.  If you are a visitor you need to ensure your coverage extends to health care in Prague.

If you are living in Prague or plan to move and not obtain citizenship you need to find good health coverage.  All visitors are required to have health insurance or a travel insurance policy that covers medical up to thirty five-thousand dollars.  You must show proof to enter the Czech Republic.

If you plan to drive a car in Prague, you should purchase full coverage as there are many uninsured drivers and if you are struck by one you are on your own.  Your car must be registered and insured and you can receive a better deal if you are willing to pay a higher deductible. Insurance to cover the contents of your house or apartment makes sense.  It is not required by law but if everything you own is in one place it is a good idea.  If you are traveling for business, inquire with your company about all types of coverage including for the contents in your apartment.  You can arrange for insurance in your home country before leaving for your trip but if you are unsuccessful, contact a Prague company before leaving home to arrange your coverage.  The insurance companies will inform you of Czech insurance requirements.

Travel insurance is available with many different insurers so compare many prices and packages.  You must purchase travel insurance before you depart on your trip, you cannot buy insurance in Prague once you arrive that will cover your travel.

Depending on your situation, whether you are just visiting in Prague or you are planning on living there long or short term, investigate all your insurance in Prague options.  You can make arrangements when you get there for certain forms of insurance or you can research at home before your trip and pay online if you want to purchase a policy.  There are many websites available that will rate the reliability of the insurers and give you a chance to read reviews posted by other customers.
